LP SmartSide is an exterior wood siding and trim created by LP Building Products. LP SmartSide features treated, engineered wood that offers LP’s innovative four-component SmartGuard manufacturing process for strength against harsh weather and resistance against termites and fungus. LP SmartSide also focuses on curbside appeal with longer siding pieces to reduce seams and a choice between rich cedar grain texture or smooth finish. LP SmartSide durability is maximized with the LP SmartGuard manufacturing process, making its lap sliding more resistant to hail and impact damage than vinyl or fiber cement siding. LP SmartSide features higher workability since it works and cuts like traditional wood, requires less tools than fiber cement products, and weighs less and is more manageable than fiber cement products.
Manufacturing Process of LP SmartSide
LP begins this manufacturing process by conditioning the collected logs for about seven hours in order to soften the wood before entering the factory. The bark is then removed from the conditioned logs before all the wood is processed into smaller pieces, about the size of a business card. The wood is then dried in a 1400 degree drum until it only retains six percent moisture. The dried wood pieces are then blended in double drums where LP introduces their SmartGuard manufacturing process. During the blending process, adhesive resins, water-resistant waxes, and zinc borate are combined with the dried wood pieces. Once thoroughly blended, LP forms the new material in siding planks. The final step in this process is coating the siding with a water-resistant, resin-saturated overlay.
LP SmartSide Durable Enough for Denver’s Extreme Weather
The four components of LP’s SmartGuard manufacturing process results in the protection against water damage, hail and weather damage, termites, and fungal decay, making their siding and trim durable for Denver’s extreme weather.
